* the 1971 Memorandum on Bahá'í publishing from the Universal House of Justice
* a list of Bahá'í publishers with their addresses
A companion to Bahá'í literature for the general reader. Invaluable to everyone interested in books, Bahá'í community librarians, students, those responsible for planning courses at Bahá'í schools and distribution agencies.
The book is divided into two main sections. The first, 'A Spiritual Heritage' recounts the history of Bahá'í literature in English. It is placed in the context of the works of the Three Central Figures of the Bahá'í Faith - Bahá'u'lláh, the Báb and 'Abdu'l-Bahá - as the core of that literature and the basis for all subsequent writings. The rise of Bahá'í publishing centres during the ministries of Shoghi Effendi and the Universal House of Justice, and the establishment of standards of Bahá'í publishing, are other major themes of this fascinating essay.
The second section, 'Classification of Bahá'í Literature' lists books, pamphlets and magazines published throughout the Bahá'í world up to the end' of 1986. It represents a complete cataloguing of books in print available from bookstores, publishers and various Bahá'í distribution agencies. It is classified for easy reference under Sacred Writings, Basic Texts, History, Biography, Religion and the Social Order, Bahá'í Life, Teaching and Pioneering, Books for Children, Fiction and other categories. There is also a valuable title index.
'Of all the works of man, words are the most enduring'.
Eunice Braun has been involved with books for most of her life, as writer, editor, book designer, and publisher; for twenty years she was Managing Director of the Bahá'í Publishing Trust of the United States. Her handbook 'Know Your Bahá'í Literature' published in 1968 rapidly became indispensable as a guide to Bahá'í books available at the time.
